Rasam (Thin spicy tomato soup)

Ingredients

  1. Tomato cubed – 2 medium,
  2. Tamarind (valanpuli ) – small lemon size, soaked in ¼ cup water- discar the fibre.
  3. Black pepper crushed – 10
  4. Chili powder – ¼ tsp
  5. Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  6. Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  7. Garlic crushed – 6 cloves
  8. Cumin ( Jeera) crushed   – ½ tsp
  9. Kayam (asafoteida) – ¼       tsp
  10. Salt
  11. Mustard seeds – ¼ tsp
  12. Curry leaves – a few
  13. oil
  14. Chopped coriander leaves – 1 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Cook tomatoes very well with ingredients 2-10 and with enough water,
  2. Heat oil and splutter mustard, add curry leaves fry for a minute till they become crispy, off the fire add coriander leaves.
  3. Add these fried ingredients to the tomato gravy. Boil again adjust the taste of salt.
  4. Serve with rice / Can drink just like soup- good for digestion.
