Lady’s finger dry fry


Bhindi Sabji  – vendakka mezhukkupuratti


  1. Cumin ( Jeera) – ¼ tsp
  2. Onion chopped – 1 large
  3. Curry leaves –a few
  4. Tomato chopped – 1 medium
  5. Lady’s finger ( bhindi ) cut into circular pieces – 250 gms
  6. Chili powder – ½ tsp
  7. Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  8. Dried mango powder ( amchur ) – ½ tsp ( optional)
  9. Roasted and coarsely crushed peanuts – ¼ cup
  10. Salt to taste
  11. Oil – 2 tbspoon
  12. Coriander leaves chopped ( optional) – to garnish


  1. Heat the oil in a pan, add cumin seed to sputter.
  2. Add chopped onion and curry leaves, fry until onion turns slight brown.
  3. Add chopped tomato, salt fry for a few minutes until tomatoes become soft.
  4. Add the ladies finger, chili powder, turmeric powder and amchur (optional) mix well and cook on a medium flame, without lid for 10-15 minutes or till the ladies finger are soft, while stirring occasionally.
  5. Once the dish is almost dry, add the crushed peanuts, mix well and cook on a medium flame for another 2 -3 minutes, while stirring occasionally.
  6. Garnish with coriander, Serve hot with rice / roti.
